For the 21 edition, the Vallauris Biennial become International Biennal of Vallauris - Contemporary creation and ceramic (BICC).
Since 2006 the competition has been reserved for creators who are citizens of the European Union.
Three sections will show the many different features of ceramic practices and their evolution :
- The first is devoted to the container (plastic reality or symbolic value), a “traditional” view of ceramics, even though it allows for all the possibilities and transgressions that such a medium allows.
- The second is devoted to design. Here works produced in collaboration with ceramicists, manufacturers and even industrialists will be presented. This section will illustrate the wealth of formal offerings in this domain.
- A third will be just for architectural, sculptural or conceptual ceramics, thus broadening the fields of exploration within this medium, which is several thousand years old.
The jury consisted of 10 members, chose 33 artists native to 13 differents countries.
This same jury will meet on march to award prizes (5 prizes/35 000 euro in all).
